Blue green algae in Lake Nosbonsing

If you use a private water system, do not use water from the lake for drinking, cooking and bathing

Water that contains blue-green algae blooms can make you sick if you drink or swim in it.

The Health Unit advises that a bloom of toxin producing cyanobacteria, more commonly known as blue-green algae, has been detected in Lake Nosbonsing. The geographic location of the bloom is N 46.19003 W -79.22856.

Residents and visitors near these areas need to take the following precautions:

If you use a private water system, do not use water from the lake for drinking, cooking and bathing. Boiling the water or using home water treatment devices will NOT destroy the toxins.
