November is Women Abuse Prevention Month and the Nipissing Violence Against Women Coordinating Committee (VAWCC) is recognizing Rebuilt Resources.

This morning the VAWCC presented Maureen Brazeau and Vanda Tetreault of Rebuilt Resources with an award in recognition of their commitment and dedication to the service of those affected by intimate partner violence.

Rebuilt Resources was honored by the VAWCC because of its consistent support of not-for-profit organizations that work with women and children experiencing violence.

Janine Lafreniere, Chair of the VAWCC said, “It takes collaboration from many in our community to support women and children affected by intimate partner violence. Rebuilt Resources has stepped up many times to provide victims clothing and household items and have generously donated to not-for-profit organizations assisting them in providing programming”.

Stats Can 2017 estimated that intimate partner violence represents nearly one-third of all police-reported violent crimes in Canada with almost  96,000 victims.

The majority of cases, 80 per cent, go unreported to police.

Kathleen Jodouin, Executive Director of Victim Services of Nipissing District said “We have responded to more than 230 incidents of intimate partner violence since April. Rebuilt assisted us in purchasing a mobile tracking device, an intervention strategy to enhance safety. With the help of community partners like Rebuilt Resources, we are better able to support victims.”
