Arson - 'Disregard for human life' charge laid

On January 23, at 11:07 p.m., West Parry Sound OPP officers, and the Seguin Fire Department responded to a house fire at a residence in Seguin Township.

The investigation, conducted with the assistance of the West Parry Sound OPP Crime Unit, has determined that the fire had been started by one of the occupants.

No one was injured during the event.

The Ontario Fire Marshal and OPP Forensic Identification Services have been deployed to assist in the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, a young person as defined by the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been arrested and charged with the following offence: Arson - Disregard for human life.

The name of the accused is being withheld in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario on March 14.
