After a police investigation, the two people were identified and charged

Yesterday afternoon East Algoma OPP officers arrested two people after a theft at a local grocery store in Elliot Lake. 

It comes in the wake of a complaint that a man and a woman were taking numerous grocery items on May 15.

After viewing the store video surveillance, it showed the man and woman putting food items down the front of their pants.  The two then departed without paying.

After a police investigation, the two people were identified and charged.

Dwayne Newton, 49, from Elliot Lake is charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000, 

Diana Riess, 40, from Elliot Lake is charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000,

The two are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, on July 3.
