Another successful Pink in the Rink event

But the Canadian Cancer Society was also a winner off the ice as the pink jerseys were auctioned off as part of the annual fundraising initiative.

The Powassan Voodoos and Canadian Cancer Society teamed up for a “Pink in the Rink” cause on December 17th, in a 5-3 Voodoos win over the Sault Ste. Marie Thunderbirds.

But the Canadian Cancer Society was also a winner off the ice as the pink jerseys were auctioned off as part of the annual fundraising initiative.

For the second straight year the Voodoos and Canadian Cancer Society raised more than $5,000 for the cause, with this year’s total at $5192.06 going towards Breast Cancer Research.

The team handed over the big cheque to the Canadian Cancer Society on Saturday night prior to the Voodoos game.

“We are truly overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from the Powassan community,” said Gil Pharand, Canadian Cancer Society Senior Manager of both the North Bay and Timmins offices.

“At the Canadian Cancer Society we are taking action to save lives by supporting high-quality breast cancer research, educating women about early detection, and providing information and support services to those living with breast cancer, as well as their loved ones.”

The Voodoos anticipate the event will again take place next season.
