                                        WINTER HAS ARRIVED EARLY

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is warning motorists with the snow that has arrived comes winter driving.  Police would like to remind motorist of the following winter safety driving tips:
•Proper maintenance of your vehicle is essential for winter driving
•Make sure your vehicle has winter tires
•Drive at a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you
•Carry a cell phone in case you get stuck or in a motor vehicle collision
• Have a well-stocked emergency supply kit that should contain battery jumper cables, first aid kit,
shovel, basic took kit, blanket and extra winter clothing such as mittens, socks, hats and boots.
•Always check the weather forecast before heading out for extended trips

The main cause for skidding or sliding on slippery roads is too much steering, too much acceleration and too much braking.  Smooth and slower is the key to safety in winter conditions.
