Alex Dufresne Gallery is presenting “Adventures in Art”, a collaborative art project of L’Arche North Bay and Community Living North Bay. This exhibition features 50 pieces of art produced over a two-year period in the Adventures in Art Program.

Back in 2015, Karen Sherry, Past Chairperson of L’Arche North Bay, approached Community Living North Bay Community Coordinator, Shannon Johnson, seeking to partner with them to host an art program for people both with and without intellectual disabilities, to come together and have a shared creative experience.

In April 2016, a three-month trial run was offered at Community Living and Sherry was the first of many artists to teach the participants helping to produce art for the enjoyment of doing art. The first session had 35 people.

Over the next two years, there were many people who participated in the program. They worked in a variety of mediums from watercolour, paper mâché, photography, Jackson Pollock (a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement), ink, and string art to name a few.

The opening reception is Saturday September 7 from 1 until 4 p.m. Opening remarks will be at 1:15 and there will be light refreshments and free museum and gallery admission. Donations are welcome.

The show will remain on display until October 26 and the fall/winter hours of the gallery are Thursday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
