A call of a stolen vehicle results in a drug charge

Investigation revealed that the driver had consumed suspected controlled substances and was arrested and taken to the North Bay Police Service to conduct further testing

On Friday February 19, shortly after 11:30 p.m., Temiskaming OPP officers responded to a call of a stolen vehicle on Lake Temagami Access Road in Temagami.   

Officers found the driver a short time after.  

Investigation revealed that the driver had consumed suspected controlled substances and was arrested and taken to the North Bay Police Service to conduct further testing. 

As a result, Zachary Sawyer, a 32-year-old resident of Nipissing First Nation, is charged with "Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs."

The news release makes no mention of a stolen vehicle charge.

Sawyer was released by way of an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 23  in Temiskaming Shores. Furthermore,Sawyer was held for a bail hearing on charges from the Anishinabek Police Service Nipissing.
