The Art Gallery of Sudbury will celebrate northern Ontario artists with the 60th Annual Northern Ontario Arts Association Exhibition. The opening reception is Friday, March 3 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Exhibited artists include Brigitte Bere, Barry Bowerman, Bonnie Brouzes, Margot Cormier-Splane, Ruth Reid, and Lionel Venne among others.

The annual exhibition continues the NOAA tradition of giving local communities access to original art. A total of 40 artworks were selected from nearly 200 submissions by NOAA members as part of this year-long traveling exhibition in communities across northern Ontario.

The NOAA consist of 15 independent art clubs, representing approximately 400 artists from across northern Ontario. The NOAA exhibition will travel over a 12 month period to art galleries and exhibition spaces throughout the northern Ontario, showcasing the 40 original works juried from nearly 200 submissions from its members.

The exhibition will be on display at the Art Gallery of Sudbury until April 2.

Each of the clubs are individual centres of artistic creation during the winter and fall months within their own regional boundaries. Many members also meet during the summer months, for outdoor workshops, on location painting excursions, and the well-known week long Cobalt Artist Colony.

Founded in 1949, the NOAA aims to advance artistic awareness and information in remote northern communities and promote the appreciation of original works. In this spirit, the NOAA supports member clubs in their quest for art education by covering some of the costs of bringing established artists to the varied art clubs as well as community workshops.

The Art Gallery of Sudbury is located at 251 John Street.

The Gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.  For more information visit www.artsudbury.org, or call 705-675-4871
