20th year celebration for Victim's Services

At a recent gala held at the Grant Event Centre, Victim Services of Nipissing District celebrated its 20 year anniversary during Victims and Survivors of Crime Awareness Week. 

VSND was established in 1997 to provide 24/7 assistance to victims of crime and tragedy when requested by police in the District of Nipissing.  Funded by the Ministry of the Attorney General, Victim Crisis Assistance Ontario VSND provides practical and emotional assistance, needs assessment, safety planning, referrals and information and client follow up.  A core function is support to access the Victim Quick Response Program for victims of violent crime.

The celebration was attended by Victim Services Crisis Volunteers, Police and Community partners. 

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, a Governor General of Canada Award to Marion Fletcher, an 18-year volunteer with VSND.  Financial support for the event was provided by Justice Canada.
