2019 North Bay Seed Exchange and Eco-Fair slated for Sunday

It’s time for the annual North Bay Seed Exchange and Eco-Fair this Sunday, February 24 from 12:30-4 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church, 399 Cassells St,

This event aims to bring community members together in the spirit of creating a healthy, sustainable community by promoting local food resiliency.

"The event is organized by a passionate group of community members and organizations including St. Andrew’s Church, Dirty Girls Farm, Transition Town North Bay, Soutars Highland Farm, Stonemote Cottage and the Nipissing Area Food Roundtable," says Joanna Boldt of Dirty Girls Farm.

Entry is free though non-perishable food items or monetary donations for the St. Andrew’s food bank will be gratefully accepted.

The event features:

  • Seed Sale/Exchange: Buy or swap seeds and speak to expert and enthusiastic gardeners
  • Eco-Fair: 30 different vendors! Check out a wide variety of local, environmentally conscious and/or gardening related organizations and businesses. Products, services, and programs to make our lives more environmentally friendly, healthy and sustainable will be showcased.

Workshops:

  • 1-2pm:             Local Lepidopteran Pollinators (Butterflies & Moths) - Nipissing Naturalists Club
  • 1:30-2:30pm:   Butterfly Dance with Global Groove
  • 2-3pm:             Beyond Organics (Planting for Pollinators)
  • 3-4pm:             Creating a Butterfly Garden

Refreshments will be available

  • $5 loaded baked potatoes with your choice of:
    1. Curried black beans, grilled mushrooms, and chili-spiked pumpkin seeds
    2. Highlander BrewCo "Smoked Porter" pulled pork, caramelized onions & apple cider braised cabbage
    3. Arugula pesto, Thornloe cheddar cheese sauce & roasted honey glazed beet & celeriac "croutons"
    4. Fairtrade organic locally roasted coffee, local teas, and baked goods
