Big Brothers Big Sisters is lacing up for its most important fundraiser of the year.

The “15th Annual We Own It Bowl For Kid's Sake” takes place Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25 from 6 – 10 p.m. at Partners Bowling Alley with 300 people are attending in support of children’s mentoring programs.

“We’re excited to be able to celebrate Canada’s 150th during our 15th year of Bowl For Kid's Sake” states Darlene Jamieson, Executive Director.   “We’re celebrating and having a great time together with bowling, music, food and prizes, all the while keeping in mind that the goal is to raise $20,000 for North Bay and District mentoring programs”.

So far $6,500 has been raised through the Title sponsor, Lane sponsorships, and pledges.

The agency is relying on bowlers to show up with $13,500 at the lanes on Friday and Saturday.  If the bowling pledges fall short, the hope is that the silent auction will raise the rest of the funds.

Items on the auction table will include autographed Toronto Blue Jays baseball,  autographed Toronto Maple Leafs hockey stick, gourmet food baskets,  restaurant, spa, massage and hotel certificates and much more.

The Canada 150 theme will be reflected in bowler’s costumes, prizes,  Swag Bags and the decorations.

“Anthony Rota’s office was very generous in supplying Canada 150 flags, pins and tattoos while Northern Occasions, Atlas Copco, Lucky 13, the Health Unit and OPSEU. We Own It supplied the other decorations and Swag Bags, “   Sarah Taylor,  Bowl For Kids Sake co-ordinator stated, “and of course our volunteers made it all possible.  Without their help with recruiting and picking up prizes, putting up posters and volunteering at the event, we couldn’t do this”.

Everyone who bowls is asked to raise $40.  When they arrive with their pledges they are given a door prize ticket and a Swag Bag full of goodies.

Bowl For Kid's Sake is hosted in Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across Canada during the month of March.

Bowlers are able to compete for prizes locally as well as Nationally.

“Last year one of our team captains, Amelia Roscoe, won a National prize which was a Spa package valued at $800 for organizing the most teams”, stated Jamieson.  “It’s exciting for us to compete with larger agencies in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal since we know that our little City is home to people with really big hearts and enormous motivation for improving our community” Jamieson stated.

There is still time to participate.
