1,200 vehicles checked in Highway 11 police initiative

A traffic checkpoint on Highway 11, near Sand Dam Road north of the city last week, paid dividends.

On October 16, officers checked 1,200 vehicles. One impaired driver was arrested and charged, two people were charged under the controlled drugs and substances act, 73 mandatory alcohol screenings (MAS) were conducted, 20 vehicle inspections were conducted and seven vehicles were taken off the road. 

One driver was chosen to provide a MAS. The driver failed the roadside screening and was brought to North Bay OPP for further testing. As a result, Robert Motminy, 58, of Laurentian Valley Township, was charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration.

Montminy was released on an undertaking with a date to attend the Ontario Court of Justice on December 15.. 

These incidents marks 41 drivers charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the North Bay OPP Detachment area in the year 2020.

The North Bay OPP, Traffic Incident Management and EnforcementTeam, SAVE (Snowmobile, All-Terrain Vehicle and Vessel Enforcement) Team and the Ministry of Transportation Enforcement Officers were also included in the operation.
