Caleb Sanders is off for another hockey adventure this fall.
Last season, the young goaltender made the trek to Boston to play on an academy team Boston Advantage U16 AAA.
This year, the journey will take him a lot further from home as the 17-year-old is heading overseas to play for the Solleftea Hockey program in Sweden for the 2021-22 season.
"I had a very positive experience last season leaving home which made the decision to leave again a lot easier," said Sanders.
"Sollefteå has a great program that I know will be great for my development. I did leave last year as well. I got to play with another great program being the Boston Advantage which was an amazing experience."
Sanders credits his advisor, John Jorginson of RRi Hockey Agency for helping find the opportunity. He is confident the experience will make him a better goaltender.
"The most important thing for me is becoming the best goalie that I can be and the system that is set up in Sollefteå will be very helpful in doing so," said Sanders.
The former Trappers AAA goalie is not sure if this will be a long-term opportunity or if he will decide to come back home and play in North America in 2022-23.
"I think the ultimate for any hockey player is the same, I want to be able to make a living one day playing this sport," admitted Sanders.
"Before this, I also want to go to school and get a strong education while also playing hockey."
Sanders has a lot of people to thank for helping him get to where he is today, including his dad, Doug Sanders, who was just recently named the new Hockey Development Coach with the North Bay Minor Hockey Association.
"Making this move to Sweden would not be possible without the support I have gotten from my family, trainers, and friends," said Sanders.
"I cannot thank them enough for all they have done for me leading up to this point."
