An informal luncheon will take place at the Davedi Club on Friday October 14th at noon to say goodbye to Peter and Pam Handley.

The Handleys are moving to Belleville to live with their daughter.

Both have made significant contributions to our community and have touched many people.

Pam, through her work as curator of the North Bay Museum for many years and her church involvement, has contributed to retaining much of the heritage of our community.

Peter, as a radio personality, city councillor, founding member of the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame, Chair of the Municipal Heritage Committee and the go-to source for sports history in North Bay has, in his unassuming manner, made a significant impact locally, as well provincially.

“We just felt that it was important to allow people to come together to say goodbye to Pam and Peter in an informal manner," stated organizer Dave Saad.

“In their own way, they have contributed substantially to the fabric of North Bay and a number of people have asked if we were going to do something.”

Back in August, Peter Handley was recognized as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee ceremony at which more than a dozen local citizens were recognized for their efforts in the community.

"It is an interesting award, I did not even know it existed," said Handley.

"Awards are always sort of subjective, you don't know what they mean but what it means to me is that I was thought enough of to be even nominated for such a thing so I am very proud and happy."

Aside from his years of broadcasting more than 900 North Bay Trappers and North Bay Centennials games on the radio, Handley was also the founder of the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame, he helped establish the Municipal Heritage Committee, and he was a North Bay city councillor for nearly a decade.

"I am really proud of those heritage site plaques and the work I did with the Heritage committee, I am very proud that we have a sports hall of fame that has existed since 1977, and I had a small role to play in that and I still continue to," said Handley, who is also known for hosting programming on YourTV in North Bay including the show, "Life Is."

The buffet luncheon is part of the monthly Davedi Club luncheon buffet with an area set aside for the event. Tickets are $20 those that plan on attending are asked to buy their tickets in advance at the Davedi Club.
