Mayor Vic Fedeli said he was “cautiously optimistic” about the new Ontario budget, particularly the items in it directed toward municipalities.

Ontario Finance Minister Greg Sorbara unveiled the Liberal government's first budget today, and it includes the reintroduction of health care premiums, and higher sin taxes are among the measures introduced in today's provincial budget.

Four Police Services Act charges have been laid against Cst. Sean Burns by the North Bay Police Service. Burns, who has been with the service since 1995, was charged with three counts of discreditable count and one count of deceit, said Insp.

Dr. Catherine Whiting, the city's medical officer of health, has issued a drinking water advisory for all residents and properties of CFB North Bay and the Jack Garland Airport. It's the second drinking water advisory for the area in the last month.

Highway 534 at South River Road west of Highway 654 is still closed due to flooding conditions. Ontario Provincial Police advise that Highway 534 to Highway 654 is open to local traffic only.

Monday night’s thunderstorms helped plunge two-thirds of the city into darkness. Jim Snyder, general manager of North Bay Hydro, said the weather downed a 250 Kilovolt feeder line from Ontario Power Generation into the city’s main generating station.

Men from North Bay, Ottawa and Windsor were among 206 arrested and charged by the Toronto Police Service last week during a prostitution sting.

Hwy 534 at South River Road has been closed due to flooding conditions and a road washout, Ontario Provincial Police say. No detour has been worked out at this time, so police recommend allowing for extra driving time to account for the road closure.

A high-water advisory for Lake Nipissing has been issued by he Ministry of Natural Resources and the Sturgeon/Nipissing/French Water Management Group. As well the groups have issued a high-flow advisory for the French River.
