Award winning music entertainment guru Steve Herman, CEO of The Agency Group, made a special trip home to take part in today’s ‘Youth Opportunities in The North’ forum at West Ferris High School.

Herman, who grew up in North Bay, talked to the students about how to accomplish personal and professional achievements, and how he was able to turn his childhood passion into a truly successful career.

During the keynote address Herman told the crowd about promoting bands in the early days and struggling with school.

“I was asked to leave Widdifield High School because my days skipped were higher than my Grade Point Average.”

But he quickly added that he was offered a second chance at Chippewa and emphasized the second chance allowed him the ability to attend university in Ottawa and continue to hone his skills.

“I think going university or college allows you to mature more, and also it gets you out of your environment and puts you in a new environment where you meet new people and share ideas” Herman says.

“The contacts I have from university remain in with me today. They’re the people I do business with, friends and without those people I wouldn’t be here today, so I think it just broadens you as a person.”

Herman also told the budding entrepreneurs to be persistent, travel and to continue to take chances.

“Traveling is education and that’s why I think college and university are so important, because the more you venture out the more you learn the more your mind opens to the possibilities.”
