You'd think this should be an easy case to prosecute

North Bay Police say at 4:48 a.m. yesterday they were called to an abandoned, damaged vehicle on Highway 63.

The area was searched and a man was found 400 metres away, lying on the side of the road heavily intoxicated with a bottle of liquor next to him.

He was arrested for impaired driving. The vehicle had been reported stolen.

Police charged 43-year-old North Bay man with:

  • Driving with more than 80 mg of Alcohol in Blood
  • Care or Control While Impaired
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle and
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order   

Also this morning, a suspicious woman was seen lurking in a Fisher Street parking lot. A caller took the licence plate of the vehicle she was driving. Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen the day before in Trois Rivieres, Quebec.

The vehicle left prior to police arrival,  however, the driver and vehicle were found in the parking lot of a restaurant on O’Brien Street in the early hours of this morning. The woman was arrested from the driver’s seat where police found Methamphetamine tablets with a street value of $260.

The woman, 35 year old Valerie Godbout of Laval Quebec was held for a bail hearing charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by crime and
  • Possession of Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Breach of Probation
