You voted, and Jaimee Bull is your Sports Story of the Year winner

We gave you two days, and in that time frame, about 800 votes were cast for the 2021 BayToday Sports Story of the Year. 

In the end, it was world champion local waterskier Jaimee Bull who garnered about 34 per cent of the votes cast through the online poll.  

"The 2021 year was amazing for me in skiing," Bull reacted in an email from BayToday about winning the local poll.

In 2021, she was able to win the Waterski Pro Tour along with capturing other titles like gold at the Open World Championships, gold at the Masters and the U21 World Championships.  Oh, yes, and a world record too.  

"I was able to set a U21 World Record, as well as a World Championship Record in the Open event," she proudly noted.  

"I am very grateful to have been voted as the Sports Story of the Year by the North Bay public, while being up against some other very deserving candidates. The North Bay community has been very supportive throughout my career especially when I was developing as a junior, so winning this award is a reflection of the opportunities North Bay has helped provide. I look forward to continuing to represent North Bay on the World Stage." 

North Bay's Mike O'Shea, who won his second straight Grey Cup as the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers finished in a distant second with about 20 per cent of the vote.  

The Barons winning the NDA senior football title finished at 9.5 per cent and U18 world champion and San Jose Sharks draft pick Ben Gaudreau finished close behind at 9 per cent of the vote.  

Former Battalion captain Barclay Goodrow, who won his second straight Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning, rounded out the top five finishing at close to 7 per cent of the vote.
