'All golf courses in the area came out of winter in good shape'

As we navigate our way around COVID-19 restrictions with the new Stay-At-Home Order, we find out the government is permitting golf courses across the province to open including here in the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit.

Both Osprey Links Golf Course in Callander and Highview Golf Course off Highway 11 in Powassan will officially open today.

Clear Springs Golf Course in East Ferris has announced it will open on April 17.  Meantime, Pinewood golf course opened on Tuesday and its driving range opened on Monday.

Jeff Rogerson, General Manager at Osprey Links, is glad that the government and Mother Nature have cooperated to help them open in early April.

"We are grateful to the Ontario Government for continuing to recognize that golf is a safe activity and the golf operators of Ontario continue to ensure they maintain strict protocols to ensure the safety of members, guests and staff during this pandemic," said Rogerson.

"All golf courses in the area came out of winter in good shape, and we at Osprey find ourselves about six weeks ahead of 2020 in terms of course conditions and the dry state of the playing field.

"As a result, we have now cut most fairways and greens at least once and feel confident the turf is resilient enough to allow us to open and have play on the course."

Rogerson says Osprey Links will open at noon today with tee times required.

"You can check out our web page at https://ospreylinksgolf.com for a full list of COVID protocols we will be enforcing," added Rogerson.
