With North Bay sitting between two beautiful lakes, amongst so many other serene bodies of water, it was only a matter of time before Ruby Yoga owner, Amanda Cooley found a way to bring her classes onto the water and within the tranquility of North Bay’s environment.

“It’s so calm and peaceful on the water,” Cooley describes her new paddle board yoga classes.

“I used to spend all my time on the water and when I saw a way to bring my business and my passion onto our lakes, I had to do it!”

As a result, Cooley launched a pilot project in 2015 to gauge the local interest in taking their yoga lesson onto the open water and it was met with overwhelming success. Not only that, but working with Tourism North Bay, Cooley hopes to bring real awareness to the wonders of North Bay’s lakes and waterways.

The Board Warrior Program officially launched in 2016 to two full classes during the summer. Situated on Trout Lake from the Elks Lodge 25 Family Park, participants can register for classes like Floating Relaxation, Intro to Stand-Up Paddle Boarding, and SUP Yoga.

“Part of the yoga way of living is to purify not only our inner selves, but also the world around us,” Cooley said.

“Canadian nature is beautiful, vast, and we want to preserve it for future generations.”

Which is why she’s gone the extra step, to help preserve the environment. Considering recent news of the need to clean the beaches at local lakes, Cooley wanted to push the mantra of a pure environment and took the initiative to partner with the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority to keep the beaches clean.

“Ruby Yoga has adopted part of the ecosystem,” Cooley said. “And we’ll continue to do what we can to take care of the environment.”

Currently, classes run Tuesday and Thursday nights, as well as Saturday mornings during the summer. Click here for details on registration for the different classes within the Program.
