After 17 years, a French language student music festival has been cancelled by the ongoing dispute between teachers andn the provincial government.

"It is with sadness that Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord and its partner Association des professionnels de la chanson et de la musique announces the cancellation of the 17th edition of the festival "Quand ça nous chante"  (When we sing) which would have been presented at École secondaire catholique Algonquin from February 13 to 17, 2020, due to the new work-to-rule measures announced by AEFO.

"This decision was made following a consultation with the French-language school boards in the province," says a news release.

"During this consultation, it was unanimously brought forward that participation in the festival was becoming increasingly difficult with the current pressures, particularly with the access to supply staff, participation in extracurricular activities and given the number of schools that have withdrawn their participation in the festival," it adds.

"Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord would like to sincerely thank all participants who have worked so very hard to set up this event and is deeply saddened to have to terminate this collaboration for 2020."
