Woman trying to cross Ont-Que border on 63 gets nabbed with impaired

A woman trying to cross the border from Témiscamingue to Ontario on Highway 63 got stopped by OPP May 13 and charged with impaired.

Police say it was around 9:15 p.m., when North Bay officers stopped a vehicle bearing Province of Quebec plates at the interprovincial boundary-crossing.

While being asked why the driver wanted to enter Ontario, she exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested and taken to the North Bay Detachment for further testing.  

Claudia Lafrance, 43, Thorne, Ontario, is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

Lafrance's driver's license was suspended for 90 days and she appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on June 1..

This incident marks 28 drivers charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the North Bay OPP Detachment area in the year 2021.
