Woman assaulted with a baseball bat calls police

A domestic dispute near Timiskaming Shores has resulted in an "assault with a weapon" charge.

OPP say just after midnight on January 23,  Temiskaming OPP officers responded to a call about a domestic dispute, on Tenth Road in the municipality of Charlton and Dack.

Police say a man struck the victim with a bat and the incident was reported to police. 

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated by the Temiskaming Emergency Medical Service.

An arrest was made and a search yielded a small quantity of suspected Fentanyl.

A 53-year-old resident of Gowganda is charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon - spousal
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm
  • Mischief - domestic
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid

The accused was released by way of an undertaking, and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 9 in Temiskaming Shores. 

The OPP say they will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
