It's time to shave and pave again as asphalt plants are preparing to open for the summer road work season.

Chair of Engineering and Works Tanya Vrebosch reports that the resurfacing tender closed last week. "We need to carefully review the unit costs and apply to the various candidates then finalize the list after Council awards the tender."

Managing Director of Engineering, Environmental & Works David Euler reminds residents that there are "around 360 km of roads (centerline) and 720 km of lanes," in North Bay and "the resurfacing budget in 2016 was $4 million. The current budget for 2017 is $3,661,000, but if we have other capital surpluses, we will increase the project to $4 million."

As in years past, "The exact timing for each location is also subject to working with the contractor after award. However, it will be stipulated that arterials and collectors will be completed as soon as possible, subject to availability, and that road resurfacing, after pulverizing, is to be completed within two weeks, or as agreed upon with the successful bidder."

"We don’t expect the list to change much, but we can’t guarantee everything on the list will get done," clarified Vrebosch.
