Will sunshine be the theme of North Bay's summer?

It appears that sunshine will be the theme of the summer in the North Bay area.

That's according to Dr. Doug Gillham, a meteorologist with Canada's Weather Network, as WN released its summer forecast earlier this week.

"We think it looks like a pretty nice summer across the region," Gillham told CKAT's Bob Coles.

"Temperatures we think will tip to the warm side of normal. We don't think it will be a relentless, all-out scorcher. We will have periods of hot weather but there will be enough breaks, periods of cool weather to keep those average temperatures not being too far above normal. There are a lot of comfortable days with the highs in the mid to upper 20s."

Gillham expects more summer days warmer than normal as opposed to days that are cooler than normal.

As for summer precipitation, Gillham says that can be really hard to predict.

"Summer rain is something we don't like to do and region can be very wet and some parts of the same area not anything. strong severe ones will be seen.  periods of dry and stormy at times and whether you get those big storms, that could be a key to whether you are dryer than normal or wetter than normal," he explains.

Gillham believes that optimistic forecast will continue into the next season.

"Preliminary indications are that the warm weather will continue into the fall," said Gillham.

"So summer fulfils its calendar obligation with the official end of summer not until September 21 and does look like a warm September. Many years we see that cooling weather coming in early but preliminary indications for those who like to keep that warm weather around and into the fall."
