Whiting running for Liberals

As first reported on baytoday.ca yesterday, the Nipissing Provincial Liberal riding association has announced that Dr. Catherine Whiting will be the Liberal candidate for Nipissing. This is Whiting's second crack at provincial politics.

As first reported on baytoday.ca yesterday, the Nipissing Provincial Liberal riding association has announced that Dr. Catherine Whiting will be the Liberal candidate for Nipissing.

This is Whiting's second crack at provincial politics. She took 28% of the vote in the 2011 election, losing to PC Vic Fedeli by more than 6,000 votes. NDP standard-bearer Henri Giroux also ran that year, taking 18% of the vote.

She joins Fedeli, Giroux, and Libertarian Derek Elliott in the June 12th race to represent the riding of Nipissing.

Whiting served as the Medical Officer of Health / Executive Officer for the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit for 3 years and for the North Bay and District Health Unit for 17 years.

She had a solo family practice for 8 years in North Bay.

She obtained her medical degree from the University of Western Ontario, her Certificate in Family Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada and her Master in Health Science from the University of Toronto

"I look forward to the opportunity to share my policies, plans and vision to the people of Nipissing."

Whiting was a founding member of the former Northern Information Partnership, the former Northern Diabetes Health Network and Northern Regional Genetics Steering Committee.  She served 6 years on Board of Governors of Canadore College, serving one year as vice-chair.

She is a Director in the Rotary Club of North Bay and currently is their President.
