A 21-year-old Powassan man who lead police on a one-hour highway chase has been sentenced to two years less a day in jail, and received a 10-year driving prohibition.

Robert Leggett pleaded guilty to six of 11 charges laid against him following a motor vehicle collision in North Bay and subsequent police pursuit along Hwy 11 last week.

Ontario Provincial Police officers from Almaguin Highlands, the North East Region Traffic and Marine division, Powassan and North Bay detachments were involved in the incident.
It ended when Leggett drove the stolen vehicle he was in over two spike belts flattening all four tires on Highway11 north bound, south of Trout Creek.

Leggett appeared before Justice Gregory Rodgers at the Ontario Court of Justice, in North Bay, Tuesday.
Crown attorney Paul Condon recommended a two-year less a day sentence and Leggett will serve that time in jail to the following charges:

1)Fail to remain at the scene of an accident, Section 252 of the Criminal Code of Canada;

2)Theft under $5,000.00, Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada;

3)One count of breach of probation, Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada;

4)One count of driving while disqualified, Section 259(4)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada;

5)Dangerous driving, Section 249(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada;

6)One count of fail to stop for police, Section 249.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Leggett also faces a three-year probation.
