West Nipissing man dies in Highway 17 head-on collision

The highway was closed in both directions for approximately seven hours

Nipissing West OPP.

OPP say a West NIpissing man is dead after a head-on collision on Highway 17, east of Kukagami Lake Road, in Markstay-Warren.

The accident happened today at 1:17 a.m.

"Preliminary investigation indicated that one passenger vehicle was traveling west, while another passenger vehicle was traveling east and collided head-on," says Constable Rob Lewis.

One driver died at the scene and is identified as Larry Pearce, 42, from West Nipissing.

The other driver was rushed by Sudbury Paramedic Services to the local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The highway was closed in both directions for approximately seven hours.

This incident is not related to the convoy of truckers traveling towards Ottawa added Lewis.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team attended to process the scene. The investigation is still ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available say police.
