The Boat's lakefront patio will be open this Friday — in accordance with all public health measures — as it was in this photo taken last fall.

As of 12:01 a.m. Friday, Ontario will enter Step One of the Roadmap to Reopen and many local restaurants will be ready with new, improved, and/or expanded patio dining areas. With no indoor dining permitted until Step Three, it will be at least six weeks from Friday's reopening until guests are welcomed inside.

“Thanks to the tremendous efforts of every Ontarian, beginning June 11 we will be able to cautiously lift public health measures in the settings we know are safest,” said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “While this is exciting news, as we move to enter Step One of Ontario’s Roadmap it remains critical that all Ontarians continue to follow public health advice and roll up their sleeves to receive the vaccine.”

Step One of the Roadmap focuses on the resumption of more outdoor activities with smaller crowds where the risk of transmission is lower. This includes outdoor dining with up to four people per table, with exceptions for larger households.

The province will remain at each step for at least 21 days to evaluate any impacts on key public health and health system indicators.

At the end of the 21 days, we will evaluate vaccination rates and look for positive trends in other key public health and health system indicators.

If trends in key public health and health system indicators are positive, the province will move to the next step two weeks after the following vaccination thresholds have been met:

  • Step 1: 60% of adults vaccinated with one dose
  • Step 2: 70% of adults vaccinated with one dose and 20% vaccinated with two doses
  • Step 3: 70 to 80% of adults vaccinated with one dose and 25% vaccinated with two doses

The area's local, resilient restaurants (including dozens not pictured below) will rely on outdoor patio dining, take-out and delivery until Ontario moves farther along with the roadmap.
