Nipissing-Temiskaming MP Anthony Rota, Nipissing MPP Monique Smith and Natural Resources Minister David Ramsay received a tour Thursday of CP Rail station, which is being renovated.

FedNor contributed $420,000 to the renovation and $500,000 to the development of the waterfront, and Rota said, along with provincial money from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, it was an example of how the two senior levels of government could work together.

Further information is included in the following news release issued by Rota:

Liberal incumbent Anthony Rota, along with the Hon. David Ramsay, MPP for Timiskaming-Cochrane, and Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing, held a joint news conference at @DiscoverNorthBay (formerly the North Bay and Area Museum) to highlight their on-going commitment to working together to develop and enhance projects throughout Nipissing-Timiskaming.

"Both the federal Liberals and the provincial Liberals recognize the importance of regional development, and the redevelopment of the North Bay waterfront exemplifies how we can continue to promote growth and prosperity by working together," said Mr. Rota.

"FedNor and NOHFC are designed to improve regional development and enhance tourism," he added.

"I am extremely proud of the contributions of both the federal and provincial governments towards this very important project," said Nipissing MPP Monique SMith.

"Anthony and I have worked on many projects together, and I look forward to continuing this strong working relationship for years to come."

"The McGuinty government believes that the involvement of all levels of government is essential to the development of the economy of Northern Ontario," MPP David Ramsay said.

"Anthony is a great advocate for his riding and together we will continue to work towards our common goals."

The event also involved Dr. Rod Johnston, chair of Community Waterfront Friends, who outlined the significance of federal and provincial support that has helped make the redevelopment of the former CP rail lands along the North Bay waterfront possible.
