UPDATED: OPEN ONE LANE Washout closes Highway 17 West

The MTO will assess the situation before this portion of Highway 17 can be reopened.

UPDATE: 

 The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment is advising motorist that due to local heavy rainfall a section of Highway 17 approximately 15 kilometers North of Wawa has been washed out.  Highway 17 between Wawa and White River has been re-opened to one lane.  

Drivers are asked to remain cautious through that area as maintenance crews will be working to make the necessary road repairs.

ORIGINAL STORY:

OPP are warning motorists that, due to local heavy rainfall a section of Highway 17 approximately 15 kilometers North of Wawa has been washed out. 

Highway 17 will be closed between Highway 101 and White River.

OPP say there is no detour.

The highway was closed at 4 a.m.

Then estimated reopening time is unknown.As a result, the highway between Wawa and White River will remain closed until further notice.

The MTO will assess the situation before this portion of Highway 17 can be reopened.    

The OPP are requesting that the public remain away from this area. 

This will allow road crews to work as quickly and as safely as possible. The O.P.P. will distribute details and updates of the road advisory as information becomes available.
