Dennis Chippa, the executive director of the Gathering Place, which oversees the Warming Centre operations, knows the facility on Fisher Street will once again be at capacity with temperatures dipping close to -30 Friday night.

“It will be busy all weekend, we know we are facing a crisis as far as the temperature and we have to be open so,” Chippa told BayToday.ca.

“We are open at 12 p.m. Saturday for dinner so we always open the doors so folks can come in then. So hopefully they will be able to get out of the cold the next couple of days.”

Chippa says they will be serving coffee, tea and water from 12 to 6 p.m. and dinner will be served from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Meantime the Warming Centre issued it’s December statistics this week.

The numbers showed the Triple Link Building was open 23 days in December and averaged nine overnight stays and 11 evening drop in guests.
