The success of a program coordinated by a community-minded Battalion player was revealed this week with a cheque presentation.

The program developed by Battalion forward Dalyn Wakely started last November. Wake's Sake as it has been called, involved players serving lunch once a week. On top of that volunteerism, the program also raised $2,100 for The Gathering Place.

"Thank you North Bay Battalion and the Wake's Sake Program," said Dennis Chippa, The Gathering Place's executive director.

"Dalyn came to us with hopes of supporting the homeless in North Bay and surrounding areas, which is exactly what he has done. The donations we have received through Wake's Sake have given us an opportunity to further serve our community. Keep up the great work Dalyn and thank you once again!"

Chippa said from the beginning that the initiative was amazing.

"Just the level of profile that the players and the organization have and that they are willing to work with some of the less fortunate and vulnerable populations," he said during the inception of Wakes' Sake in November.

"It is really amazing."

Adam Dennis, Battalion general manager, was thrilled to find out Wakely was willing to lead this special initiative he believes shows the character within the Battalion room.

"For us, Dalyn was so great last year doing so many things even in the limited capacity (volunteering)," said Dennis earlier this year.

"This year with no restrictions we want to make sure we encourage our guys to get out. We are a small town community and we feel it is important that we are not just asking people to come to our games, that we are giving back and doing something for them to cheer for."
