Voodoos wrap up well attended prospects camp

New coach Peter Goulet gets his first glimpse at his signed players and prospects

The Powassan Voodoos wrapped up their most well attended and arguably, most competitive summer camp in team history this past weekend.

More than 60 players from as far away as Quebec and New York took part in a three-team mini tournament where Team Green finished first with a 2-0-1 record, Team White at 2-1-1, and Team Red at 0-3.

The two-day event also included a goalie camp and skills session on Saturday.

All the ice sessions took place at Pete Palangio arena this weekend.

The July prospects camp gave new Voodoos head coach Peter Goulet his first look at returning Voodoos, potential affiliates and other prospects under one roof.

“It was great to get up to North Bay for a full weekend to meet all the staff, current players, future players, parents and to get the process started for the year,” said the longtime junior hockey coach who takes over from Marc Lafleur who left the Voodoos for Acadie-Bathurst in the QMJHL in early July.

“Our Camp was really good, I was really impressed with the pace and skill of all the games. There will be a lot of tough decisions for us to make as a staff as we construct our team. It is great being able to work with two great friends in GM Chris Dawson and Associate Coach Josh Hardiman.”

Goulet believes small town junior ‘A’ hockey in Canada is reliant on billet homes.

“It was great to meet and chat with our team billet coordinator Marta Bernard, she does an unbelievable job and I look forward to working with her throughout the year.

“Once again thank you to owner Jim Bruce for this great opportunity to work with the communities of Powassan, Callander and North Bay.”

The Voodoos are expected to announce a few more signings in the coming days and the team expects to release dates for main camp in Powassan soon.
