A Mike Lenin marker proved to be the only one in the shootout as the Powassan Voodoos pulled out a narrow 3-2 triumph over the Timmins Rock in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Thursday at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The visiting Rock got on the board, three minutes into the match-up as Nolan Ring potted his fourth of the season by banging in a rebound off a shot that saw Justin Charette ring one off the post just prior to that.

The Voodoos came back to tie it halfway through the first period thanks to Cameron Lemcke who finished off a shot from the side by Ben White that got through Rock starter Gavin McCarthy.

Special teams saw each side convert once on the power play in the second stanza to hit the intermission knotted at 2-2.

Nicolas Pigeon got the extra-man marker for Timmins at 7:14 as he came out from the left of the goal and lifted a back hand over Powassan’s Alex Bugeja.

Countering a few shifts later, the Voodoos’ Justin Spurrell found the range as he slammed one in from the slot off a Ryan O’Dell rush along the right wing boards.

After a scoreless third period, the teams headed to OT where no one would convert, this sending it to the shootout to decide things.

There, Lenin got his goal by moving down the right before moving to the net and neatly picking the corner on McCarthy with a quick snap shot.

Needing to score on their third attempt, Timmins’ Liam Wells made a crafty move by putting the puck between his legs before shooting, but his shot rang off the post and out to give Powassan the win.

Shots finished 35-31 in favour of the Rock with Bugeja earning the victory while McCarthy’s efforts helped the guests pick up one point.
