Powassan Voodoos forward Alex Bradshaw has committed to an Ontario Hockey League standard player agreement with the Flint Firebirds.

“We are excited to officially welcome Alex to the organization,” Firebirds General Manager and Head Coach Ted Dent said. “He brings in good size and skill to our hockey club. We look forward to getting to work with him in the coming months.”

The Firebirds acquired Bradshaw in a trade with the Erie Otters back in January. The 2004-born forward produced 22 G and 9 A in 37 GP for the Powassan Voodoos of the NOJHL this past season.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity,” Bradshaw said. “(Flint) is a great organization with a great team and staff. It’s a real honor to play at this level and in this league.”

Bradshaw appreciates the opportunity he was given to develop in 2021-22 in the NOJHL with the Voodoos.

“Playing in powassan was a great experience and allowed me to continue to develop my hockey skills,” said Bradshaw.

“Playing with older players gave me an opportunity to play at a higher and more competitive level. Being on the road and travelling was a great learning opportunity and let me get accustomed to living away from home and the long days of travel and hotels. The support from the Powassan community, fans, staff, billets and coaches made for a lot of fun. Above all the move to Powassan was a great development environment, on and off the ice.”

Chris Dawson, Voodoos General Manager, is thrilled to see Bradshaw sign with Flint.

“We are proud of Alex’s accomplishment as he joins three other Voodoos - Chase MacQueen-Spence, Rodion Tatarenko and Ryan O’Dell - to sign with an OHL club from our 2021-22 roster. It was a pleasure watching him improve and gain confidence as a 17-year-old in the NOJHL.”

A native of Ajax, Ont., Bradshaw was a 12th-round pick back in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection by the Otters.

“I consider myself a big power forward,” said Bradshaw.”I can get into the dirty areas, and get in front of the net. I’ll do whatever I can to help the team win no matter what that job may be for me.
