The Powassan Voodoos continue to bolster their blueline with the commitment to 6'2", 180 pound defenceman Caleb van de Ven.

The 2004 birth year defenceman, played his COVID-19 shortened season with the U18 AAA Lampton Jr. Sting.

The Soo Greyhounds 13th round selection in 2020 is hoping to continue to develop under new head coach Marc Lafleur in Powassan this fall.

"I’m looking forward to being a part of such a well-respected organization and team," said van de Ven.

"I’ve heard lots of great things about the community and fans in Powassan and I’m excited to make an impact and bring a championship to Powassan this season."

Mike Mackley, Voodoos VP of Hockey Operations, recruited van de Ven. He describes Caleb as a two-way defender with strong skating abilities.

"He sees the ice and moved pucks very well," said Mackley.

"He’s grown and added 15 pounds of muscle the past year which should only enhance his two-way game and ability to make contributions early on.

"Caleb has all the tools to be a contributing defenseman on a championship contender."

van de Ven is the Voodoos second commitment of the spring as the 2019-20 NOJHL regular season champions committed to North Bay U18 AAA Trappers defenceman Jake Fullerton last week.

The Voodoos look forward to getting on the ice this summer once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted in preparation for a return to play in the fall of 2021.
