The Powassan Voodoos have added a local hardworking defenceman as the club's first player commitment of the 2021-22 season, the club announced on Friday.

The Voodoos have added defenceman Jake Fullerton from the North Bay Major Midget AAA Trappers.

The 5’10”, 170 lb defender netted three goals and 12 assists for 15 points in 29 games for the Minor Midget AAA Trappers in his last full season of hockey in 2019-20.

"It’s very exciting and I’m grateful for this opportunity to be able to improve my game and develop at the junior level so close to home," said Fullerton.

"I’m looking forward to the prospect of contributing to such a great organization and I can't wait to get back on the ice."

Scott Huycke, Fullerton's longtime minor hockey coach with the North Bay & District AAA Trappers Association, believes he the 17-year-old can make the next step to play junior hockey.

"Jake is a very mature young man and is one of the most coachable players my staff has had the privilege to coach," said Huycke.

"We have no doubt that Jake can make the transition to junior hockey. As time goes by Jake will provide leadership by his strong work ethic."

Chris Dawson, Voodoos GM, believes Fullerton is a good fit.

"We had a chance to see Jake train independently with some of our Voodoos players last fall and he definitely competed hard with our group," noted Dawson.

"Fullerton is one of a group of exciting commitments we will be making this spring and summer."

The Voodoos are hoping to get back on the ice locally this summer in preparation for the 2021-22 season.
