“The clinic increases our capacity to provide services to clients who don’t need their nursing care delivered at home.”

Mayor Al McDonald joined Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) staff and volunteers to mark the opening of a new, fully accessible storefront clinic at VON’s North Bay headquarters at 180 Shirreff Avenue this morning.

The expanded clinic is being enabled in part by ongoing donations from long-time supporters of VON in North Bay.  In addition to increased access to ambulatory care and foot care, the clinic will also offer a place for many of VON’s nearly 75 Meals on Wheels volunteers to pick up meals for delivery and to share experiences.

“VON has been an important part of the North Bay community for well over a century,” said Mayor Al McDonald in a release.

“Back in 1903, VON nurses opened a small hospital in our city.  Today, they continue to offer care to those who need nursing and support services in their homes, and now in this expanded facility.”

Jacqueline Dorval, the Executive Director for VON in Northeastern Ontario, says it’s important to be available to the clients when and where they need us.

“The clinic increases our capacity to provide services to clients who don’t need their nursing care delivered at home,” said Dorval in a release.

“And our expanded foot care program will help those who are working to maintain mobility and independence.”

VON nurses and personal support workers in North Bay conduct more than 1500 visits to clients in their homes each week, and nearly 150 people in the community have meals delivered by volunteers in VON’s Meals on Wheels program.
