Veteran Councillor tosses hat in ring

We must be aggressive and leverage all we have and everyone we know, to position The Bay for growth

A third sitting councillor says he'll be running to keep his seat on city council.

Mac Bain says in a news release, "North Bay deserves from its members of Council; representatives that will read their council package, ask questions of residents, staff and possibly mentors. Then make the decision that best represents the interest of the City as a whole, not just one person, one street or 10 blocks. North Bay deserves a Councillor that attends Agencies, Boards and Committees meeting prepared, that contributes and represents the ABC, while safeguarding the Cities and public’s interest.

Bain was raised in Callander and has worked in North Bay at the Martyn Funeral Home for 34 years.

"I have been very honoured and humbled to be elected four times to North Bay City Council. In that time the Council has put in place policies that have helped grow the City and we have made a considerable investment in our infrastructure. Of the three levels of Government, the municipal is the level that impacts your daily life to the most extent. Municipalities only receive nine cents of from every tax dollar collected; we have had to cautiously raise taxes to pay for that investment and the rising costs of goods and services."

Bain says now more than ever, "We must be aggressive and leverage all we have and everyone we know, to position The Bay for growth.

"I have represented the City at the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities for 13 years and I have been elected to the Board of the Association of Municipalities several times.

"I anticipate with a new Provincial Government there will be pressure points for Ontario municipalities, so having an experienced councillor, on provincial issues will benefit the City and the North."

Bain joins Mike Anthony and Tanya Vrebosch as incumbents seeking re-election.
