Police have charged a North Bay woman with theft after a vehicle after it was stolen while warming up in the driveway yesterday.

North Bay Police Service received a report that a vehicle had been stolen from a home on Ann Street.

The owner left the vehicle running while she briefly entered her residence. A neighbour saw the thief enter the vehicle and drive away. Police found the vehicle a short time later outside a home on nearby Rose Avenue.

Police used CCTV footage to confirm the identity of the thief who they located and arrested at the same location on Rose Avenue.

Evelyn Jessica Metatawabin, 41, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

She was released on an undertaking and is set to appear before the court on March 14.

"While it is always nice to get into a warm car on a cold winter day, the North Bay Police Service is reminding the public that when you leave your car running unlocked and unattended with the key in the ignition, you greatly increase your risk of having your vehicle stolen. It can only take a moment for a thief to get behind the wheel and leave the area without you realizing it. Even if you are watching your vehicle, a thief can enter it and flee before you are able to react," says a news release.
