Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca is celebrated Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week at West Ferris Secondary School on Thursday with 400 grade 7-10 students.

The event was led by Jim MacLachlan and was aimed at teaching the kids to talk about issues that are troubling them through interactive story telling while increasing awareness about mental health.

MacLachlan, a retired principal, raises the profile of children’s mental health issues through story telling techniques and Thursday it was all about kids listening to their inside voice. Through song and real life situations MacLachlan demonstrated that what kids say on the outside isn’t always how they feel. In a short period of time, with the assistance of West Ferris students, MacLachlan covered the topics of self marring and rage opening the floor for discovery by the audience.
