OPP in Elliot Lake are reporting a very odd incident.

On January 14 at 8 p.m. officers were called to mischief-related complaint at the hospital in Elliot Lake.

The caller reported an "upset person" pulled the fire alarm prior to leaving the property on foot. Police found him a short time later and arrested, charged, and released the suspect.

Later that same night at around 4 a.m. police received an alarm call at a bank on Front Street in the town of Spanish. While police were on route, the alarm company confirmed the break and enter, and could see a person inside the bank.

"Police arrived a short time later and confirmed a large pane of glass shattered with more damage inside," said Constable Phil Young. "The same person from the earlier Elliot Lake hospital incident was inside the bank sitting at a desk."

Todd Pineo, 45, from Spanish was arrested and is charged with:

  • Mischief - obstructs, interrupts, or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment, or operation of property
  • False alarm of fire
  • Failure to comply with a release order
  • Mischief over $5,000
  • Break, enter a place - commit indictable offence

Pineo appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on January 15 and was remanded into custody.
