Const. Louise Monette said police are still actively looking for the man, who had travelled to North Bay to sell his truck and attend a medical appointment.
But she adds, OPP cannot confirm that foul play was involved.
Monette says police have searched the area around St. Charles, as well as roads leading out of the town and continue to follow up on all leads.
They are also checking places where Smellie has been known to frequent in the past.
Yesterday the OPP Helicopter Unit conducted an aerial search of the area but the missing man has not yet been located.
He is described as a white male who is 6’2” tall, and weighing approximately 141 lbs. He has short gray hair and brown eyes. It is possible he is wearing blue jeans, a black t-shirt, a camo-coloured jacket and brown hiking boots.
He is known to drive a black and grey 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche.
Police and family are concerned for his wellbeing and are asking any person with information to immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
