It sounds like there could be changes to your natural gas bill in 2019.
Union Gas has applied for an increase of $53 a year for residential customers and $2,239 for businesses in the northeast.
The potential price hike is being blamed on forecasted increases in the price of natural gas supplies.
"Natural gas supplies are abundant and as a result the price our customers pay for the natural gas commodity has steadily declined over time,” stated Sarah Van Der Paelt, director of marketing and energy conservation, Union Gas.
Van Der Paelt noted while there are seasonal market fluctuations, natural gas prices are lower today than 10 years ago.
"Natural gas continues to be the most cost-effective energy choice for homes and business, and our customers can save even more by leveraging Union Gas energy-efficiency rebate programs."
Despite the hike, Union Gas says bills will still be lower than they were a year ago, by $13 for residents and $382 for businesses.
If approved by the Ontario Energy Board, the price increase will go into effect January 1st, 2019.
