Two vehicle stops, four charged

A vehicle approached, and when stopped, officers could smell an odour of marijuana in the vehicle.

On Sunday at approximately 2 p.m., North Bay OPP officers were conducting RIDE Program on Highway 64 in West Nipissing.  

A vehicle approached, and when stopped, officers could smell an odour of marijuana in the vehicle. The driver and passenger were both arrested, and officers began an investigation. 

Officers discovered that the driver was previously released from custody on a Recognizance of Bail with conditions. One of the conditions was not to be in contact with the passenger of the vehicle. 

The passenger was found to be bound by conditions of a Probation Order; not to be in contact with the driver of the vehicle.  

The driver, a 45-year-old man from Chelmsford, was arrested and charged with one count of Fail to Comply with Recognizance.

The passenger, a 32-year-old woman from Sudbury, was charged with Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

Then yesterday at 1:55 a.m., a Powassan OPP officer was on patrol in Callander.   

The officer saw a vehicle on Highway 654 and stopped it to check the sobriety of the driver.  

The driver of the vehicle was found to be a suspended driver. A 33-year-old female from Callander was charged with Drive While Under Suspension.

The passenger of the vehicle was found to be bound by a Probation Order condition not to be in contact with the driver. The 32-year-old man from Callander was arrested and charged with Fail to Comply with Probation. 

Police did not release names of the arrested.
