During the week of April 18th to April 24th, the West Nipissing Police Service logged 200 calls for service.

Among those were 37 9-1-1 calls, 38 Traffic Enforcement calls, 31 Police Assistance calls, 5 Alarms, 2 Mischiefs, 2 Threats, 1 Domestic Disturbance, 1 Impaired and 1 Sexual Assault.

On April 18th, a West Nipissing Police officer was on general patrol on Front St in the town of Sturgeon Falls when he observed a vehicle with damage to its front hood.

The vehicle was eventually pulled over after it was noticed crossing the center line.

The female driver was spoken to and an odor of alcohol was immediately noticed coming from the driver’s breath.

After failing the Roadside Screening test, she was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and transported back to police headquarters.

Two breath samples were collected by a qualified breath tech.  The results of these tests showed that the driver had more than two times the legal limit of alcohol in her blood.

The 25 year old Sturgeon Falls resident was later released on a Promise To Appear and was issued an automatic 90 day driver’s license suspension.

On April 19th, a call was received regarding a 2 vehicle collision on Third St at Victoria St.

Upon arrival the officer was told that a vehicle was traveling West on Third St when it collided with a parked car.

The male driver was spoken to and an odor of alcohol was detected coming from the driver’s breath.

After failing the Roadside breath test, he was transported back to police Headquarters where two more breath samples were collected.

The results of these tests showed that the male driver did not exceed the legal limit but did fall in the “warning” range.

The 27 year old male driver was issued a 3 day driver’s license suspension and was also charged with Careless Driving.

On April 22nd, a 59 year old female was arrested and charged with numerous Fraud related charges.

This investigation was initiated last year after a local Non-Profit Organization called police after finding inconsistencies in relation to their finances.

A forensic audit was performed and it was discovered that approx. $87,000 was missing.

The accused was the organization’s finance officer and has since been relieved of her duties.

Charges include Fraud Over $5000, Uttering Forged Document, Theft Over $5000, Falsification of Books and Documents with Fraudulent Intent and Fraudulent Concealment.

She was released on a Promise To Appear.
