Two officers assaulted during domestic dispute

Temiskaming OPP says two of its officers were assaulted while investigating a domestic disturbance at a home on Prospect Avenue in Cobalt yesterday afternoon.

Investigation revealed that a victim was assaulted and the man was strewing things around inside the residence.

"A short time after, police located the individual and he was placed under arrest," said Constable Jennifer Smith. "The accused immediately became belligerent and combative refusing to comply with officers. An altercation ensued, resulting in two officers being assaulted."

The attacker was taken to the detachment for processing.

"While in police custody, the accused caused further mischief by spreading waste matter in the cell area," added Smith.

A 24-year-old man from Temiskaming Shores, is charged with:

  • Assault - spousal
  • Mischief - interfere with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property - under $5,000
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest
  • Two counts of assaulting a peace officer,
  • Two counts of uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm - spousal
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Two counts of failing to comply with a release order 

 

The man was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in Temiskaming Shores.

OPP say they will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
