Two area drivers charged with impaired

The OPP in the region has recently charged a pair of area residents with impaired.  

An officer with the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol in the City of North Bay. The officer stopped for gas and observed a customer in a vehicle acting strange at 9:45 p.m. on January 7.

The officer spoke with the driver and suspected that the driver was impaired by drug. 

The officer conducted roadside Standard Field Sobriety testing (SFST) and subsequently arrested the driver for impaired driving. 

The driver was transported to the North Bay Detachment for further testing by a Drug Recognition Officer (DRE).

As a result of the investigation, Raymond Hunter, 38 years of age, of North Bay, was charged with Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver's license was suspended for 90 days. The driver was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on January 26, 2021.

This was the first driver charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the North Bay OPP Detachment area in the year 2021.

In the other situation, members of the North Bay OPP were on patrol in Patterson Township in Restoule on January 9.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., a vehicle was observed by officers, driving erratically with no lights on. A traffic stop was conducted and officers determined the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Powassan Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Everett Grawbarger, 54 years of age, of Restoule, Ontario was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver's license was suspended for 90 days. The driver was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on January 26.

This incident marks two drivers charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the North Bay OPP Detachment area in the year 2021.
